The Marriage Service says ‘Marriage is sign of unity and loyalty, that enriches society and strengthens community and is a great foundation for family life. Getting married in church is a public declaration before God and your family and friends that you are pledging yourselves to a lifetime of love and companionship as a reflection of our eternal Christian relationship with God.
Who can get married at Boulton St Mary’s?

Marriage Services at Boulton St. Mary’s
Our historic church and grounds, including the lych gate which greets you as you walk up the church path provide a beautiful setting for any wedding, no matter how big or small.
If one of you lives in the parish or have what is called a ‘qualifying connection’, you can ask to be married at Boulton St Mary’s.
If one or both of you has been married before this does not necessarily prevent you getting married here. We recognise that marriages can end for sad and painful reasons, so the Church of England accepts that a divorced person may marry again in church under certain circumstances. Our vicar will be able to advise you about this. Sadly, it is not legally possible for Church of England clergy to carry out same-sex marriages.
What is a qualifying connection?
A person has a Qualifying Connection with Boulton St Mary’s if that person: was baptised in the parish. (This does not apply where the baptism formed part of a combined service of baptism or confirmation);
or
had his or her confirmation entered in a church register book of a church or chapel in the parish;
or
has at any time had his or her usual place of residence in the parish for at least 6 months;
or
has at any time habitually attended public worship in the parish for at least 6 months;
or
a Parent of that person has at any time during that person’s lifetime: had his or her usual place of residence in the parish for at least 6 months; or habitually attended public worship in the parish for at least 6 months;
or
a Parent or Grandparent of that person was married in the parish. To find out which parish you live in enter your postcode into A Church Near You.
